What’s feng shui (fung shway)? In Chinese thought, it is a system of laws considered to govern spatial arrangement and orientation in relation to the flow of energy.
Since we tend to spend many hours at our desk, it’s important to create a vibrant and positive energy in our office space to support our health and vitality. Through long hours of sitting, blank white walls and eerily quiet coworkers, it can often be challenging to make your office energy work for you.
This can be especially tough when you work in a cubicle where there are no windows and the desk arrangement is typically permanent. But fear not – creating good feng shui is still possible!
Go Green
Adding plants allows for fresh air, which is a must when trying to accomplish feng shui. Plants like Areca Palm and Lady Palm eliminate most indoor pollutants, which helps to promote a good flow of energy and enhance positive feelings. Plants are also great for those who don’t see themselves as being much of a decorator, but want to achieve some level of feng shui.
Decorate / Accessorize / Customize
It can be fatiguing to have a bland cubicle that looks the same as everyone else’s – especially when you enjoy standing out like I do! Add a touch of you to your space by hanging up your favorite art, quotes, and pictures of friends and family. To further make your space your own, acquire unique desk accessories. One of my personal favorites is Pascal, my chameleon tape dispenser. You can get him here! To add a touch of style, I’ve also added a chandelier to my space.
Feng shui is said to work best when applied in subtle ways, so don’t feel you need to go overboard with items.
Get Organized
Clutter is not only unpleasing to the eye, but can be frustrating to deal with. Organization is a must for creating and maintaining a good feng shui energy. Once the clutter starts accumulating, your energy is sure to quickly turn more negative.
Last but not least, take your work feng shui home with you! If you find your office set-up is challenging to create feng shui, it is especially important to make the extra effort to create good feng shui in your home. This will assure that your personal energy is receiving the replenishment and support it needs to be able to withstand hours in a poor feng shui office environment.
